Skinny Jeans Q&A

Q: What can you wear and not wear with skinny jeans?

A: Skinny jeans are actually not as tricky as many think. They can be so amazing when you can get them right. You will be addicted! Let me just start by saying you don't have to be a size 0 to wear these. Shop for the right pair. Just because one doesn't fit does not mean they all won't fit. I've learned if I have to go up more than one size, they probably aren't the ones for me. I also like ones that are higher cut and have stretch. Otherwise, I spend the day feeling awful and hating them and trying to keep them up. Here are some of my tips:
1.It's really all about proportion and balance. Looser tops are always great, super tight ones are not. I think the best is a middle ground between super baggy (who wants to look like a tent) and super tight. If you go with a super loose top, or even a dress, try belting it if you're feeling like it's too loose. There are lots of fitted loose tops out there right now to help you avoid the tent-ness. For a fitted top make sure it hits at your hips or longer. It will help with the flow of it all. Big sleeves can work great and jackets and cardigans are always a sure thing. Don't wear anything that hits above the waist unless layering with a longer piece.
2. Dark washes are always the most flattering and make sure they fit you properly everywhere.
3. Shoes are pretty easy when it comes to skinnies. Ballet flats are great but some people don't love them, so that's a personal preference. Pointy shoes or heels will help elongate the leg and help you look leaner. Boots are always a sure thing. They help give balance and can hide calves. My fav is a boot with a heel! :) In the summer I roll my jeans to help me feel more proportioned with flat sandals. Please do not attempt a tennis shoe.
4. Everyone has a different body type, so everyone will have different areas they don't want to reveal (unless you are perfect- you lucky). When you put it on look in the mirror and ask where does my eye instantly go? Everyone else's eyes will probably go there too.

the top here is still loose enough on top to balance it.

I love this look. Again, her shirt is tucked in, but still loose enough to not be awkward.

Her white tank is just long enough to make the shorter grey one work.

I hope this helps! Thanks for the great question!!
